Directions and Instructions
- Generously spray the inside of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray, or rub it well with a little softened butter to prevent sticking.
- Remove the frozen raw biscuit dough from the freezer and separate the pieces. If the biscuits are large, cut each one into quarters; if they’re small, leave them whole. Spread the biscuit pieces into an even layer in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the packed brown sugar and ground cinnamon until there are no large clumps of sugar left.
- Pour the melted butter and vanilla extract into the bowl with the brown sugar mixture and stir until it forms a thick, glossy syrup.
- Pour the buttery brown sugar mixture evenly over the frozen biscuit dough, aiming to coat as many pieces as possible without stirring.
- Cover the slow cooker with the lid. Cook on HIGH for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or on LOW for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, until the biscuits are puffed, cooked through, and the edges are bubbling and caramelized.
- Once done, turn the slow cooker to WARM and let the dessert sit with the lid on for about 10 minutes to allow the syrup to thicken slightly. Serve warm, spooned straight from the crockpot.
Notes or Tips
This delightful dessert can be enjoyed as is, or you can elevate it even further by serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Feel free to sprinkle some additional cinnamon on top before serving for that extra touch of warmth and spice. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days, but let’s be honest, they probably won’t last that long!
Cooking Techniques
The slow cooker method allows the biscuits to steam and bake gently, resulting in a wonderfully soft and tender texture. The melting process of the butter and sugar creates a syrup that seeps into every crevice of the dough, infusing it with a rich, decadent flavor. It’s a foolproof way to achieve that delightful caramelization without needing to hover over the stove.
