  • Total Time: 1 hour 35 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf (approximately 8 servings)

Directions and Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, combine the chopped apples with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and the remaining teaspoon of cinnamon. Toss until evenly coated.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the 2/3 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Pour in the milk and mix until a smooth batter forms.
  8. Spread half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  9. Layer half of the apple mixture over the batter, then sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-brown sugar mixture.
  10. Add the remaining batter on top.
  11. Finish with the remaining apples and cinnamon-brown sugar mixture.
  12. Using a knife, gently swirl the layers together for a marbled effect.
  13. Bake for approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  14. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.

For the Glaze:
15. Mix the powdered sugar with enough milk to reach your desired consistency.
16. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread before serving.

Notes or Tips

  • Granny Smith apples provide the best balance of tartness and sweetness, but Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Braeburn apples also work well.
  • For easier removal, leave parchment paper hanging over the sides of the loaf pan.
  • Allow the bread to cool completely before glazing for the cleanest presentation.

Cooking Techniques

  • Creaming the butter and sugar thoroughly helps create a light, tender texture.
  • Avoid overmixing once the flour is added to keep the loaf soft and moist.
  • Swirl gently to maintain distinct layers of cinnamon and apple throughout the bread.
